The Seanad has heard north Longford is losing gardai, post offices, credit unions and pubs.
Fine Gael senator Paraic Brady raised serious concerns about the decline of Drumlish and Ballinamuck.
He says there's only one garda to cover a huge rural area in north Longford after two recent retirements.

He called for Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan to address the issue - as he raised the decline of other services:
