Local Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan has blocked nearly 300 people on social media in the past month because of sectarian and racist abuse.
The Sligo-Leitrim deputy says one of his grandfathers was a commander of the IRA in north Roscommon, and was a Sinn Féin councillor.
He says his other grandfather was from south Armagh, and couldn't go back to Northern Ireland because of his involvement in the War of Independence.
