A farmer accused of multiple animal cruelty charges in Elphin, Co Roscommon, has been granted bail in the High Court.
He had been in prison for a month, ahead of his trial in June.
Sean Coughlan, of Cum, Lahardane, Ballina, Co Mayo, is charged with 40 counts of animal cruelty and alleged related offences at his dairy farm in Laragan, Elphin.
A further 38 charges relate to his company, Coughlan Farming Limited.
The Department of Agriculture alleges up to 500 calves died on the Elphin farm between 2023 and 2025.
Coughlan has pleaded not guilty.
He had been on bail until last month, ahead of his trial in June.
But on March 26th, his bail was revoked in Roscommon Circuit Court, after Judge Kenneth Connolly found he broke bail conditions given to him last October.
Mr Coughlan, with help from a representative, Arno Gaultier, challenged the legality of those conditions in the High Court, and Coughlan was granted bail yesterday.
He is now out of Castlerea Prison, where he'd been for a month.
