Employees may have to return to office with easing of restrictions

Restrictions were eased from 6am this morning.

Employees won't have a right to refuse to return to the office if it's in their contract of employment.

A phased return to the workplace is due to start on Monday after a widespread easing of restrictions.

From today bars and restaurants can return to normal trading hours and nightclubs which have a special exemption order to open late can do so.

Outdoor events can also return to full capacity today, in a big boost to sports fans. Until now, they were limited to a 50 per cent attendance, or 5,000 spectators.

The requirement for social distancing ended at 6am this morning along with capacity restrictions on live events.

People will begin returning to workplaces from Monday, and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar doesn't think there will be disputes from people who'd rather not go back.
