The Emergency Air Ambulance service based at Custume Barracks in Athlone is thanking the property owners in the region for their help over the past 8 years.
The service began in 2012 after the closure of the Accident and Emergency unit at Roscommon hospital and has seen the helicopter become a familiar sight landing at football fields, school playgrounds, and farm land across the Shannonside region in order to respond to medical situations or accidents.
Captain Jason Mc Dermott who's originally from Ballinameen outside Boyle in north Roscommon says the goodwill shown towards the service is vital in helping to save lives.
He says while they prefer to land in open areas like pitches or public ground, that isn't always possible and the generosity of farmers and other private landowners is evident in their response...
