Roscommon Credit Union Ltd has announced the closure of its Elphin branch after significant structural damage to the building rendered continued operations unsustainable. The decision was communicated to members in a letter issued on Wednesday, outlining the circumstances and detailing the supports that will remain available. According to the credit union, a major roof leak and extensive water saturation in the exterior walls caused part of the back-office ceiling to collapse. Combined with the general wear on the older building, the damage was deemed too costly to repair. Bringing the premises up to modern health and safety standards would require investment that the organisation says cannot be justified.
