Edgeworthstown Cafe feels impact of high inflation

Food and utility costs are rising for the local business.

A Longford Cafe has been forced to increase its prices in response to high inflation rates.

Seamus Gilchriest owner of Bia Deas restaurant says he's noticed a significant rise in the cost of food and utilities since Christmas.

In recent months his ESB bill has increased by over 1,500 euro while the price of cooking oil has almost doubled.

The Edgeworthstown businessman believes measures must be introduced to tackle the high cost of electricity as well as a reduction in local rates.

Speaking to Shannonside FM Seamus says he fears he may have to close if there are further increases.

''The biggest costs is utility energy bills and it has to be sorted, inflation has to drop.  I'm trying my best to to keep the doors open and the last thing I want to do is close but if I have to I will  because I can't put myself in financial trouble on a personal level.''
