The dumping of close to 100 bottles of oil at a popular local walkway will cost the council thousands of euro in cleanup costs.
The bottles were discovered at the entrance to the Edenmore Bog trail near Ballinamuck village in Longford this week.
Dumped oil can cause serious environmental damage when introduced to the watertable.
A county council environmental crew attended the scene on Wednesday and removed the items.
