Dr Martin Daly has been selected as Fianna Fáil’s candidate in Roscommon Galway.
He defeated Senator Eugene Murphy by eight votes.
There was a total of 204 votes at the convention with Daly receiving 106 and Murphy receiving 98.

The party have opted to only select one candidate for the next General Election.
However, there were calls at the selection convention from Cllr Sean Moylan, Malachy Hand and Bernie Kearney to add Senator Murphy to the ticket.
