The Health Minister announced plans today to allow pharmacists and doctors to extend prescriptions up to 12 months - if deemed safe - from March 1st next year.

Doubts have been raised over patient safety if pharmacists are given permission to extend prescriptions. The Health Minister has announced plans today to allow pharmacists and doctors to extend prescriptions up to 12 months - if deemed safe - from March 1st next year.

At present, they can only be issued for a maximum of six months. Speaking to Lets Talk today, Sheena Mitchell from wondercare.ie and Milltown Total Health Pharmacy is worried about the lack of concern on patient care:
