Cuts to English language funding hit local ETB hard, Dáil told

The government previously introduced English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) funding to support Ukrainian refugees who arrived after Russia's invasion.

The impact of a reduction classes run by Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board has been raised on the floor of the Dáil.

Last month, it emerged that funding cuts to English language programmes are set to hit adult education services locally.

The government previously introduced English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) funding to support Ukrainian refugees who arrived after Russia's invasion.

It has since been confirmed the situation lies at the feet of the ETB.

Responding, Minister for Higher Education Marian Harkin clarified there has been an increase to ETB funding and it is down to them on how to spend it:
