County Roscommon missing its targeted number of new houses

The Roscommon County Development Plan said an average of 392 new houses would be needed every year between 2022 and 2028.

Co. Roscommon is missing its targeted number of new houses by around 50 per cent a year. The Roscommon County Development Plan said an average of 392 new houses would be needed every year between 2022 and 2028.

But Roscommon County Council says only around 200 are being delivered every year. Chief executive Shane Tiernan says it's due to a lack of market demand:

Local Government Minister James Browne has told local authorities to zone an extra 50 per cent of land for housing. But Mr Tiernan confirms Roscommon County Council will be zoning more land for homes - but played down the difference it will make:
