Longford train station will remain closed a number of days a week going forward until staffing issues are resolved.
That's according to a spokesperson from Iarnród Éireann who says the toilet and shelter facilities will only be available when a staff member is on duty.
The building is to remain closed for a number of days until the transport company have the staff to resource it.
Ticket machines are available outside of the station for rail travel while the building is closed.
Local Councillor Peggy Nolan says it's unacceptable that Irish Rail is not assigning staff from other regions to the major stop-off point:
"I was talking to the staff today, they are doing what they are asked to do. They are not talking anybody up or anybody down.
There are staff shortages, that's not their concern, it's not our concern, because people are entitled to be sick and with Covid, sure, look what is happending with airlines and in our hopsitals with our frontline staff, they are very vulnerable.
But, there are staff available at other stations, particularly in Dublin, so second someone to Longford for six months.
