Farmers affected by flooding in south Roscommon say successive Governments have turned their backs on them. It follows the latest episode of flooding at the Shannon Callows near Athlone. The Save Our Shannon group says nothing has been done to alleviate the suffering of those impacted. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, group member John Curley accused politicians of making false promises:
He's called for proper maintenance including pinch points removed, lakes to be lowered by one metre, and a single authority to be put in charge of the river Shannon. John says extensive flooding in the area has had a devastating impact on landowners.
