Concern over future of one remaining Longford palliative care bed

New plans suggest Longford families will need to travel to a new unit under development in Tullamore.

The Longford Hospice Committee is raising its concern over the prospect that the one palliative care bed in the county will be removed.

The bed is located at St Joseph's Care Centre in Longford town, but the group has received no assurances that it will be retained in the new development on the campus.

As Health Minister, Simon Harris had confirmed that the new development would include two palliative care beds, but the group says that despite efforts to engage with the HSE, and a presentation to local politicians, they are not assured that Longford people will have access to palliative care beds in the county.
