Concern has been expressed over the future of rural transport.

That's after Dublin Chamber said it wants the government to introduce emergency, fast-track legislation to allow Metrolink to proceed.

An Coimisiún Pleanála approved the Railway Order application for the project, which will connect Dublin Airport to the city.

It's felt money would be best spent in areas such as local link and other transport initiatives across the region.

Longford Cllr Mark Casey says while the move is welcome, he fears the knock-on effect will be felt locally:
