Coalition agree 25% emissions cut for agriculture

Talks were ongoing over the last number of days on the issue.

Coalition leaders have agreed an emissions cut for the agriculture sector of 25 per cent.

Cabinet Ministers are now being phoned to seek their approval in an incorporeal meeting.

Talks had stalled in recent days with Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue seeking a 24 per cent reduction and Environment Minister Eamon Ryan looking for 26 per cent.

In the end they split the difference between the two.

Fianna Fáil TD Christopher O'Sullivan says a lower target for agriculture than the 30 per cent upper limit was needed.
