Gardai have appealed to people to prevent drink and drug-drivers getting behind the wheel during the busy New Year period.
Roads around the country are expected to be particularly busy tonight and tomorrow.
Almost 600 people have been arrested for being under the influence of cocaine, cannabis or alcohol in the month of December alone.
