The Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council says he utterly rejects an assertion that it was inefficiencies by the local authority that caused works on an overflow pipe at Lough Funshinagh to be stopped.
The local authority was forced to halt the project, following a court action taken by Friends of the Irish Environment.
The council had stated the work using legislation dating back to 1949, which provided for emergency works based on humanitarian grounds.
This was rejected by the courts, which stated that it must comply with the 2000 Local Government Act.
Roscommon County Council will now prepare environmental assessments and reports to ensure the work does not negatively impact the Special Area of Conservation and the Habitats Directive.
