Businesswoman with links to Leitrim believes more can be done for local economies

She believes something needs to be done to encourage businesses to reopen around the country.

A businesswoman, with strong links to County Leitrim, believes more of an effort needs to be made to help towns and villages occupy empty retail units.

Gwen Layden is a daughter of Drumshambo native Joe Layden who previously operated Arigna Mines.

The family is now very involved in property management in Dublin and operate several well known shopping centres such as the George Street Arcade.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, the director of the Layden family group feels a system of rent breaks for new firms will help many business get off the ground and therefore help local economies:
