British Army officer who died in live fire training incident to be laid to rest in Co. Roscommon today

During his time at Elphin Community College, he was named Head Student.

A British Army officer who grew up in Co Roscommon who died following a live fire training incident in England will be laid to rest later today.
Captain Gilbert Muldowney, of Ballinameen passed away following the incident at Otterburn Training Area in Northumberland on Sunday, January 25th.
Son of David and Meg Muldowney from Ballinameen, Gilbert, was educated locally at Elphin Community College after the family moved from Dublin to the north Roscommon village.

During his time at Elphin Community College, he was named Head Student.
In a post shared on social media following his passing, the school said the late Mr Muldowney was a quiet, kind leader who set a positive example and was deeply involved in sport and debating.
His Mass of the Resurrection will take place in St Attracta’s Church, Ballinameen at 1pm with burial in the adjoining Cemetery.
