Boost for Longford disability service staff as HSE announces 'catch-up' funding

The service has struggled since 2013 to retain and attract people as they cannot match rival private industry pay rates

The HSE is to provide a major funding boost to address years of underfunding in a Longford disability services provider.

St Christopher's Service has struggled to attract and retain staff due to a lack of funds to pay nurses and carers any additional increments due to them from social partnership agreements.

Longford TD Joe Flaherty has confirmed that €800,000 is being allocated to the service which is likely to be able to provide funding for extra resources until 2024.

The money will allow the service engage with trade unions and assist in maintaining staffing levels.
