The body of a Leitrim man who died in suspicious circumstances six years ago is currently being exhumed.
It's taking place in Bornacoola.
It's part of a cold case investigation into Liam Farrell's death.
The 87-year-old was found dead at the back of his house in Rooskey in January 2020, in a bloodied and bruised state.
No forensic pathologist examined his remains at the time, which would normally happen in suspicious cases.
His official cause of death was a heart attack, but his family believes he was violently attacked beforehand.
An inquest in September 2024 in Carrick-on-Shannon returned an open verdict.
Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly ordered a cold case investigation into his death last September.
The gardai then asked for his body to be exhumed, which is taking place today in Cloonmorris cemetery, Bornacoola.
It got under way at 8 o'clock.
Members of the serious crimes review team are at the scene, including state pathologist Linda Mulligan, Des McTiernan, head of the cold case unit.
Bornacoola parish priest Sean Burke said prayers at the request of the family.
The body will be going to Dublin for forensic examination by Linda Mulligan, likely to return in Bornacoola for reburial this weekend.
