The impact over the increasing number of bluetongue outbreaks on local farms has been raised on the floor of the Seanad.
Over the last two days, it was detected in a sixth herd in Wexford, while two other cases in Louth and Wicklow were also detected.
Bluetongue does not affect human health or food safety; meat and milk are safe to eat.
