There has been a ‘big increase’ in the number of Ukrainians contacting Roscommon County Council looking for housing recently.
It’s due to accommodation restrictions introduced last November.
Since November 10, new arrivals from Ukraine have only been allowed to stay in state accommodation for 30 days.
Up until then, people fleeing the war could stay for three months.
The change followed concerns over Ukraine easing conscription laws to allow men aged between 18 and 21 to leave the country.
The Irish government’s policy shift has had an impact locally.
There has been a ‘big increase’ in the number of Ukrainians contacting Roscommon County Council’s local authority integration team with queries.
The team says numerous requests for accommodation are now coming in daily.
