Better care of shop fronts needed says Longford Council Cathaoirleach

The Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council is calling on the local authority to work with the Chamber of Commerce to encourage local businesses to better care for their premises.

Councillor Peggy Nolan submitted a motion at this week's meeting of the Longford Municipal District looking for increased cooperation between the two bodies.

According to Councillor Nolan, while Longford Council and tidy towns have been extremely effective in tackling the town's litter problem, work needs to be done on cleaning the outside of many commercial premises in the town.

The Cathaoirleach says that while many family run businesses in the town take great pride in the upkeep of their shop fronts, there are several leased businesses that need to do better:
