Attorney General says legal advice on nursing home charges was 'appropriate'

It emerged last month that there was a legal strategy to limit payouts to people on medical cards who would have been entitled to nursing home care provided by the State.

The Attorney General's report on nursing home charges has found that legal advice given to the Government was "sound, accurate and appropriate."

Rossa Fanning's report states that the Government "acted prudently in settling claims involving care in private nursing homes."

It emerged last month that there was a legal strategy to limit payouts to people on medical cards - who would have been entitled to nursing home care provided by the State - by settling cases out of court.
