Athlone lands could be used for substantial housing development, according to report

The Land Development Agency pinpointed the site of the former St. Mel's Terrace on Grace Park Road and the Bus Éireann depot.

Over four hectares of land in Athlone have been singled out as potential building sites for 360 new homes. A recent Land Development Agency report has pinpointed the site of the former St. Mel's Terrace on Grace Park Road and the Bus Éireann depot as two sections of public land that could facilitate the construction of the new houses.

The site of the former St. Mel's Terrace had also been included in last year's report, and could yield the development of up to 130 homes in a near future. The Bus Éireann site has been described as 'moderately constrained,' where construction would take a longer period of time. The cost of potentially developing these homes has been estimated to be between €49 and 67 million.
