An Bord Pleanála has given the green light for the construction of a new hotel in Athlone. Avenir Assets Management D.A.C. had received planning permission for the development by Westmeath County Council however it was appealed to the higher planning authority. The development will see the construction of 192 bedrooms, as well as a lounge, bar, restaurant, dining room, spa, conference and meeting room facilities.
Residents living in close proximity to the proposed location had raised their concerns about the effect the development would have on an existing traffic problem in the area. However, An Bord Pleanála have now given the development the go ahead with revised conditions.
