Almost €5m has been allocated to the Shannonside region for housing adaptation grants for older and disabled people. The government has allocated €117m nationally which is an increase of 26% on the previous year. The total amount for each county is a combination of exchequer funding and a contribution from the local authority.
Roscommon received the highest amount in the region with over €2m whilst Longford and Leitrim received over €1.6m and €1.3m respectively. Local Senator Gareth Scahill says the funding will make a difference for people in the region:
