Almost €200,000 to develop boating facilities at Red Bridge near Ballymahon

The latest development at the Red Bridges adds to a lot of work carried out in and around Ballymahon in the last few years to develop outdoor activities and amenities

Over 180,0000 euro is being allocated to develop boating facilities at the Red Bridge on the Inny River, near Ballymahon.

The Shannon navigation extends to the Red Bridge on the eastern shore of Lough Ree, however no waterway or waterside facilities have been developed at the location to date.

This development at the Red bridge will consist of eight new berths, a canoe launch area, car parking and ancillary land-based facilities.

The project is being progressed as part of a collaboration between Waterways Ireland, Fáilte Ireland and Longford County Council to enhance the waterways close to  Center Parks and the town of Ballymahon.

Bob Lacey from the Inny Kayakers Association says it's not just welcome for their group but also for boaters to enable them moor closer to the town.
