Close to 300 cars were licensed for the first time in the Shannonside region last month. The finding was published in a recent report published by the Central Statistics Office. The CSO provided a break-down of the number of vehicles licensed for the first time in September by type, brand, and local authority. In the Shannonside region, 279 private cars were licensed last month. This includes 127 in Co. Roscommon, 87 in Co. Longford and 65 in Co. Leitrim. The most popular car brands in the region were Audi and Volkswagen.
Nationally, the number of new electric vehicles licensed in September 2025 rose by 77% when compared with the same time last year. While the total number of new private cars licensed last month rose by 10% compared with September 2024. The number of licensed used, or imported cars, grew by 26%.
