A junior government minister says the planning approval for an Aldi store is 'absolutely fantastic news' for Boyle.
There's widespread delight in north Roscommon with the news.
It's almost a year since the German retailer lodged these plans with Roscommon County Council.
Concerns were raised during the planning process about the impact it would have on bats, badgers, a historic mansion and other retailers.
But the council has finally now granted permission, involving a supermarket and the refurbishment of five houses on St Patrick Street.

Roscommon County Council has attached 36 conditions to the planning approval, which have not yet been released.
The decision could be appealed to An Coimisiún Pleanála.
