A total of four and a half thousand Carers across the Shannonside region are to be paid the Carers Support Grant of almost €2,000.
Announcing the grants today, Minister Heather Humphreys says the annual grant is in recognition of the key role carers play every day.
The payment is available to all carers providing full-time care to an older person, or a person with a disability, regardless of their means or social insurance contributions.

The grant will be paid in respect of each person that someone may be caring for.
Just over 2,000 carers in Roscommon will get the funding this year, with 1,740 carers in Longford, and 984 in Leitrim also qualifying for the payment.
