There were a total of 32 road traffic collisions on national and regional roads in Roscommon in the first half of the year. That's according to figures released by the Road Safety Authority to local councillors. The data was issued in response to a query from members of Roscommon Municipal District and covers the first half of the year. From January to June, 46 vehicles were involved in road traffic collisions on national and regional roads in the county. There were two deaths during this period while two people were seriously injured. 34 other road users suffered minor injuries during this time.
Last month, the Irish Independent published figures which show Roscommon as having the third highest rate of road deaths in the country this year, on a population basis. According to those figures, four people have lost their lives on the county's roads so far this year.
