21 new Gardaí allocated to local region

21 new Gardaí have been allocated to the North West Region, which includes counties Longford, Leitrim and Roscommon.

This morning, 194 Gardaí were sworn into service at the Garda College in Templemore.

Of those, 87 will be sent to the Dublin region, with 39 going to the East and 47 to the South.

This brings to over 1,600 the number of Probationer Gardaí attested since recruitment recommenced.

As well as that, 5 Garda reserves have been allocated to the north west.

While a further 365 recruits are currently undergoing the training programme at the Garda College.
