Over 200 People Granted Gun Licences in Shannonside Region in Last Six Years

Over 200 people in the Shannonside region have been given permission to have a gun in the past six years.

The gardai issued the licences between 2020 and 2025.

In Ireland, you can use a firearm for - recreational purposes such as target shooting or hunting; or killing pests or for the humane killing of animals.

A firearm certificate may be needed if you are using a firearm in a theatrical production or the shooting of a film or TV show.

But you must have a firearm certificate, be over 16 years of age and fulfil other criteria.

New garda figures show 131 people in Longford, Roscommon and Mayo have been issued a licence for a pistol or a revolver since 2020, including 20 so far this year.

A further 83 have been issued in Leitrim and Sligo, including 15 so far this year.
