Cinema Properties Limited are seeking an expansion to the IMC Cinema at the Golden Island Shopping Centre in the town.

The Scramogue man said Garda stations in the constituency should never have been closed down.

The move comes following the recent resignation of postmistress Ann Gormley after a number of years in the role.

Motions by Councillor Sean McGowan and Maeve Reynolds highlighted the issue at the November meeting of the Carrick MD.

Westmeath County Council will decide on the issue in January.

It will be known as King and Moffatt Dr Hyde Park for the next five years.
