South Roscommon councillor Laurence Fallon is welcoming the Monksland plans.

His love of the motor industry was noted at his funeral Mass in St Asicus' Church this morning, with keys to his van, a mobile phone and a screwdriver among the gifts brought up.

He is the only person in the running after Athlone councillor Aengus O'Rourke pulled out.

His funeral Mass is taking place at 11am in St Asicus' Church, Frenchpark, with burial afterwards in Tibohine new cemetery.

The GoFundMe appeal was set up by her cousin, Nicole McElroy, to help her clear credit-card and car-loan charges, and has now raised almost €10,200.

The money is paid by the council's insurers, Irish Public Bodies, on behalf of the local authority.
