The move is subject to approval from FIFA’s ruling bureau.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar will kick off a day earlier than scheduled subject to approval from FIFA’s ruling bureau; a source close to the discussions told Reuters.

The original plan was for the opening ceremony to be held before Qatar’s game on Monday November 21st against Ecuador, a move which created the unusual situation of two matches being held before the ceremony.

The Group A clash of Senegal v Netherlands as well as the Group B meeting between England and Iran were due to take place on Monday, but plans have now been made to alter the schedule.

The proposal must now be voted on by the heads of FIFA’s six regional confederations and President Gianni Infantino.

Should the proposal get the green light; the Senegal-Netherlands match will start later in the day while Group B matches scheduled for that day would be unaffected.
