Granard’s hopes of a Longford SFC quarter-final place are still alive after a second-half comeback victory over Carrickedmond in Newtownforbes.
The game finished St Mary’s Granard 0-19 Carrickedmond 0-14.
Carrickedmond fell behind after four minutes but slowly imposed their dominance on the game. Pauric Dempsey grabbing a pair of fine scores alongside a Eoghan McCormack free.
Jamie Brady Hynes had a fantastic game for Granard, shoving off a challenge from Rioch Farrell before popping it over to bring Granard back within one.
McCormack and Sean Kelly got the next two scores for Carrickedmond. Whereas, Aiden McGuire got his first of the game with a fine score off the left.
There was an intense end to the half; Darren Gallagher’s two-pointer was responded to by a two-pointer for Carrickedmond by Aiden McGuire. Carrickedmond led 10-points to six at half-time.
Granard had an explosive start to the second-half, converting the first seven scores including a Ben Blessington two-pointer to turn the game on its head.
With Carrickedmond trailing by three points they needed something big. It was provided by the next two points through McGuire and McCormack.
The sides exchanged two-pointers before Granard showed great experience and strength to see the game out.
Harry Kiernan, Gallagher and Blessington got the final three scores of the game to seal the win for Paul Lynch’s team and keep their hopes alive ahead of their final game against Mostrim. Carrickedmond despite the loss are also still in contention.
