Nine man Longford Town bow out of FAI Cup

Longford Town bowed out of the FAI Cup after a 2-1 defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic in Bishopsgate.

Chris Forrester slotted home a penalty 10 minutes from time as nine-man Longford bowed out of the cup.

Pats came closest to opening the scoring in the first-half. M Doyle’s rasper produced a big save from Jack Brady on 26 minutes.

James Doona was Town’s most lively player, causing plenty of difficulties for St. Pats without really testing Pats keeper Dean Lyness.

Pat’s came close to opening the scoring 13 minutes into the second-half. Jake Mulraney’s shot batted away by Jack Brady.

The visitor’s pressure paid-off on 63 minutes when Adam Murphy opened the scoring. Whereas, Conor Carty’s initial effort was saved by Brady. From rebound Carty setup Murphy to poke home.

Whereas, Longford responded quickly as Magerusan shot from outside the box produced a good save from Lyness.

Town were level 13 minutes from time as Mohammed Boudiaf hammered home a poor Pat’s clearance from the edge of the box.

However, Pat’s were back infront two minutes later, from the penalty spot. After Tommy Lonergan was fouled in the box. Forrester calmly slotted away the spot kick.

Indeed, Town were reduced to 10 men with nine minutes remaining as Dylan Hand saw red.

Moreover, Brady produced a super save four minutes from time to deny Forrester his second off a volley.

Finally, Town finished the game with nine-men as Jack Brady saw red two minutes into injury time, having attempted to thwart a counter-attack.

St Pat’s progressed to the Sports Direct FAI Cup second round 2-1 a dramatic finish in Bishopsgate.
