St Marys late show decide's Connacht quarter-final

St Mary’s advanced to the Connacht semi-final after a two goal late show in London.

The Leitrim champions ran out winners 3-8 to 1-8, having trailed for much of the game to the Barnet outfit St. Kiernan’s.

The hosts had the better of the opening stages. Jack Casey and Paul Geaney both sent over points for the visitors Kiernan’s replied via Chris Farley and Mark Mangan.

Conor Macken put Mary’s ahead in the opening moments of the second-half but it was their last score for 16 minutes.

Two points each from Chris Farely and Kenny O’Connor saw Kiernan’s lead 1-8 to 1-6 on 46 minutes.

Paul Geaney pulled another point back from Mary’s two minutes later. Remarkably the next score arrived on the 60 minute mark.

Geaney’s 50-metre free tying the game at 1-8 each. Geaney missed a chance to give Mary’s the lead with an easier free moments later.

However the drama was yet to come. With 30 seconds of injury time the ball was working to Jack Barnes whose shot found the net to put Mary’s three up.

Mary’s robbed St. Kiernan’s restart and quickly counter attached. Nichols McWeeney palmed the ball into an empty net to seal a six point win.
