St. John's Athletic open two point lead

With just three games remaining St. John's Athletic are two points clear at the top of the Norios Roscommon and District League Premier Division.

An impressive 5-0 win away to Ballymoe F.C. Darragh Keenan broke the deadlock after 15 minutes. Caimin Boland volleyed home a second 14 minutes later.

This result comes at a crucial time as they face Mervue in the Connacht Cup quarter-final along with three league fixtures remaining and a semi-final in the Premier League cup.

It was a big setback for Castlerea Celtic who are now six points behind St. John’s.

Moore United are in third place, four points behind the leaders. However, they have a game in hand on the leading two.

Moore had to work all the way to get a well-deserved three points from a very good Ballaghaderreen side at Moore.

Playing with the breeze in the first-half the hosts created numerous chances only for great saves by the visitor’s keeper to leave the game scoreless at half-time.

The second-half was an even affair with Moore's defence and goalkeeper called into action on a number of occasions.

Moore threw everything at Ballaghaderreen; and were rewarded when Charles Nevin squared the ball for Josh Lennon to finish the ball into the back of the net.

The win keeps Moore in the mix going into the last few games. Another great squad effort from the home side with James Byrne man of the match.

Shiven Rovers ended their relegation worries when they beat the Castleplunkett side C.P Ajax 3-2 at Tarmon.

Glen Celtic hosted Moylough in a close Division 1 clash. Glen opened the scoring after a good pass by Gavin Hegarty played in Daragh Keaveney who rifled it into the top corner.

Indeed, Glen piled on the pressure for the rest of the first-half but couldn’t finish any of the created chances.

In the second-half Moylough were much better and equalised after 10 minutes when Leo Donnellan was put through. Moylough went ahead 2-1 on 70 minutes with a great strike from Joe Whyte.
