St. Johns Athletic continue winning ways

Roscommon & District league round-up September 28th

Defending champions St. Johns Athletic beat Castlerea Celtic 2–1 at Lecarrow, in the Roscommon and District League Premier Division.

In a very good game with both keepers in top form St. Johns Athletic took the lead with 23 minutes played through Cian Kelly.

The visitors levelled the game on 73 minutes through Kailin Barlow but Dara Keenan scored the winner for the Lecarrow side with eight minutes remaining.

Boyle Celtic are back on track following a 3–2 win over last season’s runners up Moore United. Boyle were 2–0 up early on. However, Moore United levelled the game in the second-half.

Both teams had chances from then on but it was the hosts who got the all-important decider. Michael Corrigan scored two and Shane Battles one for Boyle with Charles Nevin and Rian Carpenter replying for Moore.

In a close game at Taughmaconnell, Skyvalley Rovers beat Ballymoe 3–1.

Both teams created chances early in the game. However on 35 minutes, a Garry Canavan cross was headed to the Ballymoe net by Danny Lynch.

Damien Goggins levelled the game on 58 minutes coming close to scoring on two further occasions before a Michael Garvey’s cross broke to Emmitt Kelly who volleyed to the Ballymoe net.

With ten minutes remaining Keelan Galvin set up John Fehilly and his cross was headed to the Ballymoe net by David Grehan.

In the P.K Trailers sponsored Division 1, Kilkerrin United drew 2–2 at home to Cloonfad United.

Declan Murphy gave the hosts a 1–0 lead after six minutes. However, Robert Henehan and Shane O’Malley had Cloonfad in front after the break.

An injury time Declan Murphy goal secured a point for Kilkerrin United.

Ballinahown remain unbeaten following a 4-2 win over St. Johns Athletic second side at Ballinahown.

Division round-up

Oisin O’Reilly kept up his scoring form with a goal after eight minutes. However, M J O Connor levelled the game when he scored for the visitors.

Shane Allen, Ciaran O’Reilly and Mark Egan added three more for the Ballinahown side, before M.j O’Connor added a second for the Lecarrow side.

Moylough 79 travelled to Tarmon where they played C.P Ajax. In a close game the visitors came out on top on a 4-2 score-line.

The visitors started well and scored on 16 minutes. Leo Donnellan played a one-two with Sean Kelly before scoring. 15 minutes later Alan Lyons converted a penalty for CP Ajax.

Moylough scored early in the second-half through Lucas Costa and five minutes later Joe Whyte made it 3–1.

Dylan Conlon scored for the Castleplunket side before Eoin Lyons secured the three points for Moylough.

Ballinasloe Town had a comfortable 11 – 0 win over a weak Ballaghaderreen side at Ballaghaderreen.

Ian Duffy scored three and Cameron O’Leary and Jao Alvas scored two each and Nathan Hora Ryan, Dowd Ryan Howard and Christy Sith added one each.

In Division 2, Ballyboro had a 3–2 win over St Cuans/Ahascragh United at Ballyleague.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men on 20 minutes. 10 minutes later they conceded an own goal.

Barry O’Rourke extended the Ballyboro lead on 58 minutes and Aidan Dooney added their third a minute later.

Liam O’Connor and Simon Leonard scored two late goals for St. Cuans/Ahascragh, but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Glen Celtic hosted Cam Celtic/Dysart on Friday night and won 3-1 in an evenly contested game. Cam/Dysart started well, Ben Moran gave them an early lead. Dylan Joyce replied for the Glenamaddy side before half-time.

Division Two round-up

Joyce added his second early in the second-half and with the visitors pushing hard for an equaliser Aaron Comer added a third for the hosts on the break.

Ballinagare and Lough Harps drew 3–3 at Ballinagare. Aaron Dowd, Kevin O’Gara and Tom Ward scored for Ballinagare.

Roscommon United first team beat Rahara Rovers 3–1 at Rahara. While the winners were on top early on it was Rahara Rovers who took the lead following a free-kick.

Roscommon United missed a penalty before Gustavo Araujo scored after being set up by Marcel Gala. Gala provided the opening for Araujo to score a second for United before half-time.

Kavana Donlon added a third after good work by Jay Donlon and they held on to take all three points.

Cloonfad United beat Moore United 4–0 in their Division 2 game at Moore.

Liam Fleming scored two, Bernie McDonagh and Jack Sullivan added one each for Cloonfad.

Castlerea beat Roscommon United second side 10-1 at Roscommon.

Gerry Ward scored five, Yani Chiforiuci and Cirian Kilkenny added two each with Frank Hester completing the scoring.

In the Women’s League Castlerea Celtic beat new side Roscommon United 9–1 at Castlerea. Lucy Coyle scored for the losers.

Dunmore Town beat Carick Town 9-0 at Dunmor. Aoife Smyth scored five and Lily Concannon, Amy Burns, Caroline Shally and Kate McDonald added one each,
