St. Johns Athletic will join Cloonfad United in round two of the FAI Junior Cup.
St. Johns landed a comfortable 4–0 win over the Mayo League side Ballyvary Blue Bombers at Lecarrow on Sunday.
Tommy Hurley and Stephen Francis gave St. Johns a 2–0 half-time lead. Rob Keenan and Tommy Hurley added two more after the break.
In the only game played in the Premier Division, Castlerea Celtic kept their hopes of catching the leaders St. Johns Athletic alive thanks to a hard earned 3–2 win over Moore United at Castlerea.
Jayden Tumulty gave the visitors a 1–0 lead after 19 minutes. Kailin Barlow levelled the game on 37 minutes. However, Charles Nevin restored the Moore lead just before half-time.
Pedro Jailes and Kailin Barlow scored for Castlerea in the second-half, and they held on to take all three points.
In Division 2, the Glenamaddy side Glen Celtic remain 10 points clear at the top with the race for second place close.
Just two points separate Ballyboro, Carrick Town, Cam Celtic/Dysart and Boyle Celtic “B”.
The Lanesboro based Ballyboro had a comfortable 6–1 win over Roscommon United first team.
David Rooney and Aidan Dooney gave Ballyboro a 2–0 half-time lead. Darragh Hussey, Aidan Dooney, Kevin Donlon and David Dooney added four more in the second-half. Marcel Gala replied for United.
Carrick-on-Shannon side Carrick Town beat Lough Harps 8-2 at Ballinlough. Michael Murtagh and Amas Tobi gave Carrick a 2–0 half-time lead.
Dhurgham Abdullrazzaq scored two. Jack Burke, Narada Patrasco, Conor Maher and Michael Murtagh added one each in the second-half.
Cam Celtic/Dysart beat Moore “B” 2–0 at Dysart. David Cummins and David Cunniffe scored the goals in the second-half. Whereras, Boyle Celtic “B” received a walk over Castlerea Celtic “B”.
Seven goal thriller at Cloonfad
Despite terrible conditions Cloonfad United “B” and St Cuans Ahascragh United were involved in a seven-goal thriller at Cloonfad.
Daniel Fagan gave Cloonfad an early lead, converting a penalty. However, Darrell Finn levelled the game five minutes later. Whereas, Ryan Merchant restored the Cloonfad lead two minutes into the second-half
Sean Keadin made it 3–1 two minutes later from the penalty spot and Paddy Mongan made it 3–2.
However, Liam Flemming and Paddy Kennedy closed the gap to a single goal with six minutes. However, the visitors just couldn’t get an equaliser.
Roscommon United second side lost 7–4 to Ballinagare. The game was close until half-time but Ballinagare pulled away early in the second-half.
Aaron Dowd scored four with Barry Harte, Joseph Looby and Jamie Burke added one each for United. Jack Cronin landed a hat-trick and Dannis Da Cruz adding a fourth for Ballinagare.
Castlerea Celtic Women made the journey to Galway where they played the powerful Salthill Devon side in the quarter–finals of the Women’s Connacht Cup.
The game went ahead under terrible conditions with Castlerea losing five-nil.
In The Women’s Connacht Shield, Ballaghaderreen are through to the semi–finals following a good 4–1 win away at a very wet and windy Aughanagh.
Jessica Feeney and Rebecca Finan gave Ballaghaderreen a 2–0 lead with the hosts pulling a goal back before half-time.
Grace McDermott and Rebecca Finan added two more for Ballaghaderreen to secure a place in the semi–finals. In the same competition, Kilkerrin United were unlucky to lose 1–0 at home to a good Moyne Villa side.
