St. Brigid’s landed the Roscommon senior football title with a four point win over Padraig Pearses.
A 19th county title arrived for the Kiltoom side when they outfoxed Padraig Pearse with keeper Connor Carroll the man-of-the-match.
Padraig Pearses stormed in front with a Sean Canning goal after 11th minutes. It was a game defined by goal chances. Conor Ryan’s converted a 14th minute ’45 to leave Pearses 1-3 to 0-3 ahead.
However, Brigid’s led at half-time. Bobby Nugent did the damage with five points as Brigids led 0-10 to 1-5 at half-time.
The turning point, Carroll big save from Hubert Darcy on 20 minutes.
Ben O'Carroll did equal damage as Nugent in the second-half with two fine points from play.
Pearses went 18 minutes without a score as Brigid’s took control in the second-half. Brian Derwin’s goal six minutes from time pushing Brigid’s over the line.
In the period before the goal, Carroll made two super saves to deny Pearses a major. Whereas, Hubert Darcy rattled the Brigid’s cross, when he really should have scored.
St. Brigid’s now go onto face either Mayo champions Ballina Stephenites or North London Shamrocks in the Connacht semi-final on November 15th or 16th.
