Roscommon & District league round-up April 23

Cam Celtic women’s team became the first team to win the Joe Concannon Roscommon and district league challenge cup.

In an exciting game, played at the league grounds Lecarrow, it could have been won by either side.

The sides were level at half-time but a single goal scored by Katie Nolan in the second-half secured a hard earned win for Celtic.

After the game the Joe Concannon Memorial Cup was presented to the Cam Celtic captain by the late Joe's daughter Mary and son Padraig.

Men’s Challenge Cup

The quarter-finals of the Joes Bar Challenge Cup took centre stage with at least one surprise result.

Division 1 runners-up Cloonfad United beat Premier side Ballinasloe Town 3-0 at Cloonfad.

Ballinasloe were the better side in the first-half and created some good chances with Ryan Burke and Josh McCarthy prominent. Cloonfad were under a lot of pressure but after the break the visitors visibly tired, allowing Cloonfad into the game.

Cloonfad took the lead on 64 minutes; Darragh Flynn converted a Shane Fagan corner kick. Darragh’s brother Conor headed a second for Cloonfad five minutes later. Following a Shane Fagan cross.

Luke Ruane added a third to secure a place for Cloonfad united in the semi-final.

Castlerea Celtic are also through to the semi-finals where they will play Cloonfad United at Lecarrow.

Celtic were fully tested by the Division 1 side Ballinagare/Manor United when they played at Castlerea.

In an exciting contest, decided by a Darren Clabby goal which arrived after three minutes of additional time added.

Boyle Celtic are also through to the semi-finals following a 4- 1 win over fellow premier side Moylough 79 at Lecarrow. Michael Corrigan and Daniel Hughes gave Boyle Celtic a 2-0 half-time lead.

Michael Corrigan and Jake McCrann added two more in the second-half with Alan Conway pulling a goal back for Moylough.

Boyle Celtic will face Moore United in the second semi-final; in a repeat of the league championship decider which was won by Moore United.

Moore United beat neighbors Skyvalley Rovers 3-0 at Taughmaconnell in their quarter-final game.

Moore missed a penalty after 20 minutes. On the half-hour, Danny Lynch had a good effort for Skyvalley Rovers but the Moore Kerper saved well.

Almost on the stroke of half-time Moore went in via an own goal. Josh Lennon got a second on the hour mark, following a Rian Carpenter pass. Mark Lennon sealed the victory in the last minute of normal time after good work by Ian Harney.

In the D K Challenge shield semi-finals Cam Celtic beat Ballinasloe Town 6-2 at Ballinasloe. David Cunniffe scored three Gareth Mulligan two and Jack McDonnell one for the winners.

They will face Dunmore Town in the final after they beat Division 2 side St Cuan's Ahascragh United 3-1 at Dunmore. Liam O’Connor scored for the losers.

Connacht Women’s Cup

In the Connacht Women’s Cup semi-finals the Roscommon and District League side Kilkerrin United were very unlucky to lose out to the Mayo side Manulla F.C.

The sides were level at the break but Mannulla eventually won out 2-1.

In the Connacht Women’s shield semi-final Dunmore Town beat Ballaghaderreen 3-1 at Ballaghaderreen.
