With the season gradually drawing to a close most of the action last week was in the various Cup and Shied Competitions.
In the D K Challenge Shield Final; Division 1 side Ballinasloe Town beat Division 2 side Cam Celtic/Dysart 4–0 at Lecarrow on Sunday.
Ballinasloe were 2–0 up at half-time thanks to goals from Anatolii Vovk and Shane Kelly. Mark Kilkenny and Cian Campbell added two more in the second-half to give Ballinasloe a comfortable win.
In the Women’s Challenge shield final Kilkerrin United beat Ballaghaderreen FC 4–3 in a penalty shootout after this great game finished 1–1 at the end of normal and extra-time.
Ballaghaderreen won the Connacht Shield a week earlier and were expected to win this competition.
However, Kilkerrin had other ideas and they who came out on top. Rebeca Finan gave Ballaghaderreen a second-half lead. Whereas, Ali O’Toole levelled the game near the end of normal time.
Indeed, with no scores in extra-time the game went to an exciting penalty shoot-out with Kilkerrin coming out on a 4–3 score-line.
Promotion/Relegation play-off
In the Division 1/Division 2 promotion/relegation play-off, Ballaghaderreen men’s side maintained their place in next seasons Division 1.
Ballaghaderreen edged out Ballyboro 2–1 in a game that required extra-time to separate the teams.
Shairoze Akram scored for Ballaghaderreen in normal time and Peter Horan got the winner in the second-period of extra-time.
Cloonfad United will meet Ballinasloe Town in the Division 1 Cup final following their 3-0 win over Moylough 79 at Moylough.
Their previous weeks disappointment was eased a little as Cloonfad came good in the closing stages to claim a final spot. All three goals came off the bench.
It was a hectic start to the game with Moylough missing two great chances in the opening minutes.
Moylough looked for the opener following the restart, but PJ Donnellan was composed with everything that was fired at him.
Michael McGarry beat his man on the right side before scoring his 10th of the season to break the deadlock on 71 minutes.
The insurance goal arrived on 82 minutes. Darragh Flynn broke up an attack from the hosts and Daithi Gannon made it 2-0.
Dean Lyons completed the job in injury time to set up a decider with Ballinasloe Town on Sunday May 24th.
Before that Cloonfad have a place in next season's topflight to fight for when they face Shiven Rovers next Wednesday in Lecarrow.
In the first games in the Masters league, Glen Celtic beat Carrick Town 3–0 at Glenamaddy.
Shiven drew 2–2 with Ballyboro at Glenaaddy, Boyle Celtic beat Roscommon United 4–2 at Roscommon and St. Joseph’s beat Castlerea Celtic 1–0 at Roscommon.
