Roscommon and District League round-up April 30

Moore United are through to the Joes Bar Challenge Cup final following a 2–1 win over Boyle Celtic.

The Roscommon and District League Champions played with the aid of a stiff wind in the first-half at the League Grounds, Lecarrow on Sunday.

Moore led 2-0 half-time. Charles Nevin opened the scoring with 10 minutes on the clock having been setup by his brother Jack.

Ten minutes later Shane Dunning curled the ball into the Boyle net.

Boyle Celtic pulled a goal back through Darren Foley in the first minute of the second-half. However that was as good as it got for Boyle as they rarely tested the Moore keeper for the remainder of the game.

Moore will face the winners of the Cloonfad United v Castlerea Celtic game in the final.

Roscommon & District League Shield

Cam Celtic won the D K sponsored Roscommon and District league shield following a hard earned 1–0 win over Dunmore Town at Lecarrow on Saturday evening.

Just before half-time, Cam Celtic striker David Cunniffe raced on to a ball over the defence and gave the Dunmore keeper no chance with a clinical finish.

The second-half was mainly Dunmore’s, who came very close on many occasions to levelling the game. However Cam held out for victory.

In the Division 1/Division 2 Promotion relegation battle, Ballinasloe Town second side beat Dysart 3–1 at Lecarrow. Ballinasloe will play Division 2 side Glen Celtic for a place in next season’s Division 1.

Cameron O’Leary gave Ballinasloe a 2–0 lead before John Why pulled one back for Dysart. However O’Leary completed his hat-trick before the end.

Roscommon & District League Women's Shield Final

Kilkerrin United won the Women’s shield final, beating Castlerea Celtic 2–0 at Lecarrow. While this talented Kilkerrin side were clear favourites to win they found it difficult to beat a determined Castlerea side.

Kilkerrin were 1–0 ahead after 35 minutes following an excellent volley from Caitlin Boyle. It required a stunning Lynsey Noone strike near the end to secure victory.
